The story
New Bold Land Design is a landscape design business out of Providence, Rhode Island. The designer and owner, Adeline Newbold realized her passion for plants and ecology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where she studied plant, soil and insect science.
This classroom-heavy education sparked a craving to strengthen her understanding of natural systems and learn by doing. For the next 9 years, she traveled to Colombia, Ecuador, Arizona and the Virgin Islands, seeking hands on experience in urban agriculture, community food systems, permaculture, and regenerative design.
Now, over the last six years she has connected her education and work experience, designing landscapes from homesteads to dense urban lots. Her designs support resilient and thriving ecosystems, while creating beautiful spaces for people to connect with their landscapes.
Other than a play on words, New Bold Land Design is a nod to her deceased father, Dixon Newbold, who began New Bold Design in Providence in the early 90s. New Bold Design was a successful industrial design company, creating innovative tools for bicycles and sports. Though the products are different, she strives to carry on the legacy and think outside the box, creating designs that are New and Bold.
What we do
New Bold Land Design focuses creative resilient landscapes that do not rely on fuel or chemical inputs, and can thrive in the respective changing climate.
We offer design services for rural, suburban, urban, and commercial properties. We use design principles that mimic those in nature to solve for water management, erosion control, and poor soil quality. We can design retaining walls, outdoor entertainment areas, patios, pathways, and garden areas of any size.
Each site is unique and the process begins with slow and thoughtful observation of the land in order to create a precise and accurate base, that informs everything from plant species to budget. All designs are built in AutoCAD for precision, and hand rendered for presentation visuals.
